Judge Suspends Trump’s Plan to Revoke Harvard’s Foreign Student Certification
U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs said she would suspend the action while awaiting additional legal arguments in the case.
The decision came shortly after Harvard filed a lawsuit challenging the move.
"We have just filed a complaint, and a motion for a temporary restraining order will follow. As we pursue legal remedies, we will do everything in our power to support our students and scholars," stated Alan M. Garber, the university president, in a letter.
The certification removal, announced Thursday by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, impacts Harvard’s participation in the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) and affects students holding F and J visas.
"I am writing to inform you that effective immediately, Harvard University’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification is revoked," Noem stated in a letter.
