Sweet Briar Celebrates 11th Annual March Days of Giving, Raises $1.5 Million

Sweet Briar alumnae and donors make another March Days of Giving campaign successful.
Sweet Briar exceeds its $1M goal, raising $1.5M to support students, programs, and campus initiatives during its 11th March Days of Giving.
This year, the College set a goal to raise $1 million in 10 days. Once again, the generosity of alumnae, families, faculty, staff, students, and friends far exceeded that amount, with a total of $1.5 million raised. This is particularly meaningful in light of Sweet Briar College's 125th Anniversary in 2026. Many donors were inspired to give in increments of $125 in recognition of this milestone year, spurred by two anonymous donors who each made a $125 gift to the first 200 new donors who made their first gifts in the 2025-2026 fiscal year.
On Tuesday, March 3, the Alumnae Relations and Development Office announced gifts from six alumnae totaling $500,000 to encourage the rest of the community to reach the $1 million goal by March 10, and honor the birthday of Sweet Briar’s founder, Indiana Fletcher Williams.
Donors who made gifts during March Days of Giving chose to support both restricted and unrestricted areas of need. The majority of gifts were made to the Sweet Briar Fund, which supports student scholarships, faculty and academic program enhancements, and the stewardship and maintenance of the College’s natural and built environment. Restricted areas that benefited from the campaign included Sweet Briar’s Friends groups, including Friends of Art, Friends of Riding, Friends of the Library, and Friends of Athletics, and endowed scholarships.
“Every gift is an investment in our students and in women’s education,” said Sweet Briar President Mary Pope M. Hutson, a member of the Class of 1983 and the College’s first alumna who has served as its president. “It is gratifying to see the magnitude of this ongoing support, renewed year after year, by alumnae and friends who are as committed to Sweet Briar’s mission as our faculty, staff, administrators, and our Board of Directors. I am thankful to everyone who has made a gift to Sweet Briar this year, as well as our March Days of Giving donors. I can’t wait to see what the next 125 years have in store for our students and our community!”
The success of March Days of Giving reflects the strength of the Sweet Briar community and its shared commitment to student success. At Sweet Briar, students benefit directly from this generosity through scholarships, enhanced academic programs, and a vibrant campus experience designed to help them lead with confidence and purpose.
