Army fields TACTMIS to modernize enterprise munitions management

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Army has delivered the initial release of the Total Army Combat and Training Munitions Information System, or TACTMIS, a modernized enterprise capability designed to serve as the Army’s authoritative source for munitions requirements, authorizations, forecasting, and expenditure reporting.

Developed under the Software Acquisition Pathway, TACTMIS modernizes how the Army plans, manages, and reports munitions in support of training, testing, operational, and combat-support activities. The system will replace the Total Ammunition Management Information System, or TAMIS, which is scheduled to sunset Oct. 30, 2026.

“TACTMIS is a foundational step in modernizing how the Army manages the munitions that enable readiness and warfighting,” said John C. Hinnant, chief of munitions, Headquarters, Department of the Army, Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3/5/7. “It gives the Total Army a more authoritative, integrated and accountable way to generate requirements, manage authorizations and maintain trusted visibility of munitions data across the force.”

Built on a cloud-enabled, low-code/no-code Software-as-a-Service architecture, TACTMIS supports automated requirements calculations, centralized authorization management, electronic request processing, expenditure reconciliation and enterprise reporting. The capability is designed to reduce manual workload, improve data integrity, and increase visibility of munitions demand and execution across the Active Army, Army National Guard, U.S. Army Reserve, and authorized joint partners.

TACTMIS is integrated with the Standard Army Ammunition System and aligned with the Army’s Vantage Data Platform, strengthening data exchange, enterprise reporting, and analytics. The system supports Army-wide readiness reporting, planning, programming, budgeting and execution processes, while providing more timely and defensible data to inform senior-leader decision-making and defense industrial base demand signals.

“TACTMIS moves the Army from fragmented and manual munitions-management processes toward a modern digital capability built for the scale and speed of today’s force,” said CW3 Deidre Burgos, TACTMIS program manager. “Our focus is ensuring commanders and staffs have reliable tools to manage munitions requirements, authorizations, forecasts and expenditures with greater accuracy, transparency and confidence.”

TACTMIS is also positioned to support the Army’s broader ammunition modernization efforts, including Ammo360. The capabilities serve distinct but complementary roles: TACTMIS provides authoritative operational data for requirements, authorizations, forecasting, requests and expenditure reporting, while Ammo360 is intended to strengthen Class V accountability, tactical visibility and a unified ammunition common operating picture within Army Vantage.

“Modernizing munitions management is not simply an administrative improvement; it is a readiness imperative,” Hinnant said. “TACTMIS helps the Army connect operational demand with enterprise-level analysis, enabling better stewardship of resources and better-informed decisions from unit level through headquarters.”

The initial TACTMIS release establishes a scalable foundation for continued Agile development and future modernization. Planned future enhancements include a classified capability increment intended to support near-real-time combat munitions requirements and expenditure reporting for classified readiness and logistics common operating pictures. That capability remains outside the scope of the current initial release.

“Delivering this initial release is an important milestone, but it is also the beginning of an enduring modernization effort,” Burgos said. “TACTMIS provides the digital foundation the Army needs to evolve alongside future operational requirements while maintaining uninterrupted support to the force’s ability to arm, train and sustain.”

TACTMIS is designed to support more than 10,000 worldwide users and operate without additional dedicated unit-level system administrators, helping enable consistent enterprise munitions management across the Total Army.
